I really like this new event in Utah.  I am doing what I can to help.  I thought I might add it to my blog here for any Utah readers.  Please email me or comment here if you or anyone you know should be considered for this great event.

The Utah Student 25 is an awards program designed to recognize the top 25 student-run businesses in the state based on revenue growth and profitability. It helps student entrepreneurs get the recognition they need to thrive and encourages growth and entrepreneurial activities in the state. It also creates synergy between student business owners, Utah’s renowned entrepreneurial leaders, and Utah’s institutions of higher learning.

The Institutions involved in the Utah Student 25 are:  BYU, University of Utah, Utah Valley University, Weber State, Utah State, Westminster College, Southern Utah University and Salt Lake Community College. Students may nominate themselves, or other qualified student-run businesses at www.UtahStudent25.com. Nominations will be accepted online through October 12, and the winners will be announced at the Awards Gala at the Grand America Hotel, November 5.

Here is a quote from John Richards, a BYU Cougar friend (tough to put those three words into one sentence for me) and the Founder of the Utah Student 25:

“In my role as an entrepreneurial mentor at BYU, I frequently come across students who are not involved in the mainstream of the business school or generally not very visible but who have started their own businesses and are achieving incredible success, sometimes without any recognition.  The Utah Student 25 was born out of that realization and my knowledge of the Inc. 500, a national ranked list program of top private companies.  I felt we could do an “Inc 500″ for students businesses across the State of Utah, and how that would inspire all of the State’s population to be more and do more.”

I plan to help get some good applicants in as well as be at the awards event.  I hope to see you there.  Spread the word!
